Who Are We?

We are the Society for Cancer Advocacy and AwareNess (SCAN) Kuching. SCAN was founded through the joint efforts of a group of cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and concerned professionals.

SCAN was officially registered with ROS on the 24th of July 2017. Our registration number is PPM-012-13-24072017.

Why Do We Exist?

Our motivation is to be the unified voice for all cancer patients to improve access to high quality health care. We plan to achieve that by being a strategic supporter and partner to the Sarawak Government, particularly the health care institutions and related government agencies which provide the needs and welfare of cancer patients within Sarawak region.

Our Mission

Cancer Advocacy

We aim to foster the development of cancer advocacy as a tool for positive change in cancer health care in Sarawak, taking concerted action as a collective group on matters affecting our cancer health system and to make representations to the Sarawak government and other relevant authorities on the effect of cancer health policy that may be introduced from time to time.

We would also be conducting research on issues that affect cancer patients in Sarawak, and to educate cancer patients on their rights and responsibilities in their access to appropriate and timely health care.

Cancer Awareness

Our objective is to bring awareness of cancer and cancer issues to the general public and to inform cancer patients on the latest cancer issues. We aim to reach out to the Sarawak community so that majority will be prompted to go for early cancer screening and diagnosis which in turn will help to increase the survival rate among the cancer patients.
